Sharp objects like
needles and syringes must be disposed of properly to prevent
them from hurting other people, increasing the risk of
infection if they touch used items, and/or causing pollution.
Keep this from happening by following these steps:
 |
Put
needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharp objects in a
hard plastic holder (bleach bottle or milk jug) or a
metal can with a screw-on or tight lid. If a coffee can
is used, cover the plastic lid with heavy tape. |
 |
Do
not put sharp objects in anything that is to be
recycled. |
 |
Do
not use anything made of glass or clear plastic. |
 |
Keep
waste out of the reach of young children and pets. Throw
medical waste away as often as other garbage. |
 |
Put
any bloody items in a tightly fastened plastic bag
before putting them in with other household garbage. |
 |
Do
not label the bag or container "medical
waste." These terms are used by health care
professionals only. |
